This is why we do this race Every Year!
Team Captains,
Whether it is your tenth year as a team captain or your first, we would like to thank you for being a part of our fight against breast cancer. We had a very successful 2008 Race with nearly $1 Million raised; more than 50% of this
money was raised by our teams! What started out as a promise between two sisters, grew into a grassroots organization that in just over 27 years, has become the largest private funder of breast cancer research in the world.
We feel the success of Komen lies in the trust it places in each individual affiliate. Our local success lies in the individuality of each of our race teams. When you wear your race t-shirt in public, you are helping us raise awareness of our mission -- to end breast cancer forever.
In order to provide you with all the tools you need to start and build your team, we will be holding two Team Captain Training and Informational meetings at the American Cancer Society on July 22nd, August 13, and September 3rd from 5:30 -- 7:00 p.m. To register for a session, please call our office at 205.930.8886 or email Komen Office. [More information on Team Captain Training Sessions] These sessions were organized to help you as Team Captains become more familiar with Komen and our mission, to learn how to start and build your team online, andto network with other Team Captains about creative ways to have a successful team. [Team Captain Tips]
In order to defeat a foe that sees no race, ethnicity, religion, age, or even gender, we must transcend the social boundaries of our everyday lives and all join together for one inspirational and magical morning on October 10th at Linn Park. The strength of breast cancer survivors can be felt by all, the memory of those who have lost their battle with breast cancer can be celebrated, and our community can be educated about the steps needed to help prevent breast cancer and end the disease forever.
We look forward to working with you on our 18thAnnual Race for the Cure. Please feel free to contact us if you need any help, have any great ideas, or would like to become more involved in our affiliate’s fight against breast cancer.
